The German government has stated it will refrain from formally recognizing the State of Palestine at this time. Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius conveyed this decision to reporters on Friday, responding to a recent announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron, who indicated France’s intention to recognize Palestine.
Kornelius emphasized that any resolution must be achieved through negotiated means, incorporating the involvement of Israel. He stated that recognition of a Palestinian state could only be considered as a concluding step in such a process.
The German government underscored the paramount importance of Israeli security. A key condition for further action, according to officials, is the disarmament of Hamas and the release of hostages held by the organization. Simultaneously, the government stressed the necessity for Israel to prioritize improvements in the living conditions of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
