Germany Demands Swift Security Review of New AfD Youth Group

The emergence of “Generation Deutschland” a newly formed youth organization affiliated with the Alternative for Germany (AfD), is drawing sharp criticism and calls for intensified scrutiny from within the German parliament. Irene Mihalic, parliamentary group secretary for the Green Party, declared the formation reveals a deliberate rejection of attempts to moderate the party’s image and conceal its extremist tendencies.

Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Mihalic characterized the new organization as a “cadre factory” populated by individuals with known connections to the far-right, some of whom are currently under surveillance by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Verfassungsschutz). She described “Generation Deutschland” as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” and urged security services to prioritize its investigation.

Mihalic’s remarks reflect a growing concern within mainstream political circles regarding the AfD’s attempts to appeal to younger voters through seemingly less provocative platforms. She emphasized the need for a proactive response from policymakers, acknowledging the significant efforts of civil society organizations working to combat extremism and preserve democratic cohesion. “Politics must not lag behind this engagement; we must act now.

The Green parliamentary secretary explicitly called for the Interior Ministers’ Conference to establish a joint federal-state working group to evaluate a potential ban on the AfD. She also underscored the critical importance of bolstering civil society organizations and preventing the continued growth of right-wing youth movements. The formation of “Generation Deutschland” is seen by many as a challenge to democratic values, necessitating a concerted effort to disrupt its influence and safeguard the future of German society.
