Germany Deports 43 to Iraq

A joint operation coordinated by the state of Thuringia resulted in the deportation of 43 individuals with enforceable return obligations to Iraq on Tuesday. According to a statement released by the Thüringer Ministerium für Justiz, Migration und Verbraucherschutz, 14 of those deported originated from Thuringia itself.

The coordinated action involved participation from seven other German federal states alongside the Federal Police. Thuringia’s Minister for Migration, Beate Meißner (CDU), confirmed that the deportation proceeded without incident, attributing the successful execution to the cooperation of all involved agencies. “Individuals without the right to residency must leave our country” Minister Meißner stated.

Minister Meißner further indicated that Thuringia intends to continue implementing deportations consistently in the future, particularly concerning individuals with criminal records or those considered potential threats who lack a viable basis for remaining in Germany. The operation is described as part of a shift in the state’s migration policy.

Specific details regarding the deportation flight, including the aircraft type and full passenger manifest, were not initially disclosed. Reports suggest the flight bound for Baghdad departed from the Leipzig/Halle airport earlier in the morning.
