The German government has acknowledged US President Donald Trump’s remarks during the UN General Debate, in which he suggested Germany was returning to fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius, responding to inquiries from the dts news agency on Wednesday in Berlin, stated that while he would not comment on every detail of the speech, Trump’s assertion regarding Germany’s energy policy appeared to be inaccurate. He emphasized that the current status regarding fossil fuels and the future of nuclear power in Germany remains as previously established. Germany officially phased out nuclear power in 2023.
When questioned about how the government viewed Trump’s praise, Kornelius conveyed a sense of confidence, asserting that Germany is proceeding with its planned course regardless of external commendation. The government, he indicated, is steadfast in its commitment to its own policy direction.
Trump’s speech broader criticisms included allegations of “green energy lies” and a “failed experiment of open borders” directed towards European nations, but Germany was specifically exempted from this critique.
