The German federal government welcomed the agreement reached last Friday between the Syrian government and the Kurdish military alliance, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), establishing a joint military and civil integration.
“A peaceful incorporation of the SDF into state structures marks a pivotal move toward a united, inclusive Syria, and is essential for the country’s long‑term stability and economic recovery” a spokesperson from the Foreign Office said. “Germany remains ready to support this integration process together with international partners”.
The accord, brokered after protracted fighting, calls for an immediate cease‑fire and the rapid withdrawal of combat troops from frontline positions. Kurdish fighters will form a distinct brigade within the Syrian Army, while interior‑ministry security forces will be deployed to two cities that have only been under SDF control until now.
