Germany Establishes AI Security Institute to Analyze Advanced Models and Bolster Cyber Defense

The National Security Council, led by the Chancellor on Monday, decided to review and adjust the Supply and Preparedness Laws to better suit “current security and defense policy challenges.” Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius announced this on Monday evening. These existing laws are designed to ensure that the population and the armed forces have access to critical infrastructure and vital goods during periods of crisis.

Additionally, the council agreed to establish a dedicated AI Safety Institute. This new body will consolidate the analytical capabilities of modern AI models and bolster information exchange with international institutions. Part of the NSR’s agenda involved assessing the potential impacts of advanced AI models on Germany’s cybersecurity.

Furthermore, the members of the Security Council exchanged views regarding the current political security situation in the Middle and Near East. In other news, the spokesperson for the government confirmed that the leader of the Chancellery’s department for Foreign, Security, and Development Policy has taken charge of leading the National Security Council staff section.
