On Thursday, German security authorities carried out their first deportation of criminals to Afghanistan under a new agreement with the Taliban-led government. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, several men who had been convicted of offenses in Germany-including sexual crimes, assault, and drug offenses-were flown from Leipzig to Kabul on a charter flight.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) described the operation as a key element of Germany’s migration policy. He said, “The deportation of criminals is a central building block of control, direction, and a clear stance in migration policy”. Dobrindt added that the new agreement provides a reliable basis for direct and permanent deportations to Afghanistan, and that society has a vested interest in seeing offenders leave the country. “That is why we act decisively and are expanding the deportations step by step” he concluded.
