The German Federal Minister for Consumer Protection, Stefanie Hubig, has issued a stark warning concerning the potential threat to Jewish communities in Germany, following the arrest of three individuals suspected of being members of the foreign terrorist organization Hamas.
The arrests, carried out by the General Public Prosecutor’s Office, center on allegations that the suspects were preparing potential attacks targeting Jewish or Israeli institutions within Germany. Authorities state the individuals are believed to be affiliated with Hamas. Should the charges prove true, officials describe the situation as “extremely serious.
Minister Hubig emphasized the vulnerability of Jewish life in Germany, asserting that both terrorists and radical antisemites are actively threatening Jewish individuals within the country. She underscored the state’s responsibility to actively combat these threats, adding that all citizens have a duty to protect Jewish communities. This, she stated, demands zero tolerance for antisemitism under all circumstances.
Hubig stressed the importance of ensuring that Germany remains a society where hatred towards Jewish people has no place. She warned against indifference and the normalization of violence targeting Jewish individuals, rejecting any attempt to downplay, relativize, or, in the worst case, celebrate such acts of terror.
