The German government reports that, according to the Friday edition of the “Frankfurter Rundschau”, over 200 politically motivated crimes were recorded against asylum seekers and refugees in the fourth quarter of 2025 alone. This figure comes from a response to a question by Left party law‑enforcement spokesperson Clara Bünger.
The statistics show 204 offenses directly targeting these individuals, plus an additional 33 politically motivated attacks against refugee housing facilities, including acts of arson. The report indicates that 25 people, a child included, sustained injuries. However, the “Frankfurter Rundschau” notes that figures from the Federal Ministry of the Interior still do not provide a full picture, as many incidents are entered into the official record only after a delay.
Bünger described the situation in Germany as “the daily routine of assaulting refugees” and warned that those fleeing for safety and dignity are being harassed, intimidated, threatened and physically attacked. “We can never become accustomed to these conditions” she told the newspaper.
She said pursuing offenders criminally is insufficient. “We urgently need effective protection strategies, and it is critical to stop the spread of racism from Parliament and government benches” she added. When refugees are continually portrayed as a problem, she argued, “right‑wing citizens are emboldened to act on their racial hatred”.
