According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ebola outbreak in Africa and the corresponding Public Health Emergency of International Concern declared by the World Health Organization currently present no explicit threat to Germany.
A spokesperson for the ministry stated to the dpa news agency on Monday that the immediate focus is on supporting the authorities in Congo and Uganda through the declaration of the international health emergency. This action is expected to improve communication with the general public.
While Germany is fundamentally prepared to offer assistance, no official request for help has been received yet. Potential form of support could be channeled through institutions such as the Robert Koch Institute or the Bernhard Nocht Institute. For instance, the spokesperson mentioned that resources like mobile laboratories could be supplied. However, she concluded by emphasizing that since there has been no formal request, any future assistance would be considered based on goodwill and discretion.
