Germany Reveals 30,000 Nationals in Middle East-Urgent Evacuation Flights Planned

According to the “Rheinische Post” on Thursday, citing an analysis from the German Foreign Office on the current situation in the Middle and Near East, roughly 30 000 German travellers have already signed up for the “Krisenvorsorgeliste ELEFAND” a crisis‑preparation register. The official report notes that the real number of German citizens in the region is likely to be considerably higher.

The document also states that Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) coordinates with his counterparts in the region on a daily basis. Throughout the day and night, the Foreign Office and the affected consular posts are working to provide assistance to German nationals and to bring them to safety.

On Wednesday, a special evacuation flight was scheduled to depart from Muscat, Oman, with the initial focus on vulnerable groups-elderly, sick, pregnant women, and children-who are to be flown to Germany. A second flight is planned for Thursday, and further flights for the coming days are in the planning stage, though their execution will depend on the evolving situation.
