In 2025, more than 8,000 foreigners had their stay rights in Germany revoked. The Bundestag’s response to a question from the Left party’s parliamentary group-reported by the “Rheinische Post”-shows that the majority of these people came from Georgia, Albania and Turkey.
According to the central foreigner register, a total of 8,232 individuals were affected in 2025, most of them men: 671 from Georgia, 661 from Albania and 618 from Turkey. In 2024, while the traffic‑light coalition was still in office, the total number of revocation orders was slightly higher at 9,277. The largest numbers again came from Albania (923), Georgia (740) and Turkey (701).
A revocation cancels a person’s lawful residence and creates an obligation to leave the country. The government was unable to give a reliable estimate of how many of the revocations resulted in actual expulsions.
“Because the law on revocation has been tightened several times in recent years, even minor offences can lead to a revocation” said Left member Clara Bünger. “This is a severe intrusion into fundamental rights”.
She added that the situation is particularly alarming because minors are routinely affected; even children below the age of criminal responsibility (under 14) can be subject to revocation. In 2025, a total of 43 minors were affected: 24 were under 14, and 19 were aged 14 to 17.
