Germany Secures Funding for Patriot Missile Support to Ukraine

The provision of Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine by partner nations is being welcomed by Andreas Schwarz, a leading budget policy official within the Social Democratic Party (SPD) responsible for defense spending. Schwarz affirmed that funding for Germany’s commitment to this effort is secured.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” Schwarz emphasized the escalating nature of Russia’s attacks targeting Ukrainian civilian populations as justification for this swift assistance. He stated that the United States and Germany share a common understanding regarding this matter, deeming the decision to deliver Patriot systems to Ukraine as the correct course of action.

“Everything we can protect and secure shouldn’t need to be rebuilt and financed again” Schwarz stated. “Air defense is a vital lifeline for the people of Ukraine.

Acknowledging the need to rapidly address potential gaps resulting from the deployment of these systems, Schwarz confirmed that the necessary financial resources are allocated within the “Plan 60 – Enhancement Assistance” budget line. According to figures released by the Federal Ministry of Defence, a complete Patriot missile system is valued at approximately one billion euros.
