Germany Sets New Sales Record

Germany has recorded a peak in new electric vehicle registrations during the first half of 2025. The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), the Federal Motor Transport Authority, announced on Wednesday that the figures surpassed both the previous year’s results (184,125) and the record-setting year of 2023, with nearly 250,000 vehicles registered.

Electric passenger vehicles now account for 17.7% of all new registrations. While total new passenger vehicle registrations decreased by 4.7% compared to the first half of last year, this period still represents the second-highest registration result since 2020.

Including plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles, the total number of registrations for vehicles with electric powertrains reached a record high of 387,674, representing a 27.6% share of all new registrations.

Geographically, Bavaria registered the highest number of new electric vehicles with 50,714, closely followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 50,558 and Baden-Württemberg with 38,699. Similar trends were observed for hybrid vehicles, with Bavaria leading the registrations at 117,931, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia (108,043) and Baden-Württemberg (82,407).

The average CO2 emissions from new vehicles stood at 109.6 g/km, reflecting an 11.1% reduction compared to the figures recorded during the same period last year.
