Germany Targets 2026 Build‑Type E Law to Cut Construction Costs-Minister Vows Quick Approval this Year

Bundes Minister of Housing Verena Hubertz (SPD) announced that the proposed Building‑type E law, aimed at cutting construction costs, will still be put into force this year. She told RTL and ntv on Thursday, “We’ll get it done this year”.

Her goal is to make building faster and cheaper. “We need to cut down on these standards. Not every trifle is necessary” she said, adding that the law should be a central lever “to make housing affordable again”.

Hubertz did not give a specific deadline, but referred to the ongoing process. “The key point is that the law must be good” she emphasized while discussing consultations with trade associations and experts. “As soon as possible – and we are certainly not aiming for a Christmas deadline”.

She also noted that streamlined procedures can reduce costs. “If you can build faster, you also save a lot of money” she concluded.
