Germany Ticket: Securing Long-Term Affordability

Ahead of a special transport ministers’ conference on Thursday, the Social Association of Germany (SoVD) has called for long-term financial guarantees for the Deutschlandticket from both the federal government and state governments.

Michaela Engelmeier, chair of the SoVD, emphasized the urgent need to conclude the ongoing debate surrounding the ticket’s funding across the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers. She stated, alongside partners in the “Socially Compatible Mobility Transition” coalition, a call is being made for the federal and state governments to secure the Deutschlandticket’s long-term financing and ensure price stability.

Engelmeier further advocated for substantial investments in public transportation alongside the introduction of a nationwide social ticket. She believes that such measures are essential to unlock the ticket’s full potential in fostering a future-proof, climate-friendly and socially equitable mobility system.

The price of the Deutschlandticket rose from €49 to €58 at the beginning of the year and reports suggest a further price increase may be imminent in the coming year.
