Germany to Send More Patriot Air Defense Systems to Ukraine

The German Ministry of Defence announced Friday the upcoming delivery of additional Patriot missile system components to Ukraine. In an initial phase, several Patriot launchers will be transferred in the coming days. A second phase will see further system elements handed over within the next two to three months, significantly bolstering Ukraine’s air defence capabilities with additional Patriot batteries.

The delivery is the result of “joint efforts by partner nations” to prepare these systems for operational deployment. Systems currently undergoing maintenance will be expedited to ensure readiness for use in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry, an agreement has been reached with the U.S. Department of Defence stipulating that Germany will be the first nation to receive expedited deliveries of newly produced Patriot systems of the latest generation. Germany will finance this acquisition.

Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany proactively committed to providing additional Patriot systems to Ukraine during NATO-level discussions. This pledge was dependent on the U.S. manufacturer prioritizing the accelerated delivery of new Patriot systems to ensure Germany’s continued fulfillment of its NATO commitments.
