Germany to Support Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

The German government has signaled its readiness to actively support the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s peace proposals for the Gaza Strip, according to remarks made by Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, Minister Wadephul emphasized Germany’s potential contribution to resolving operational aspects of the plan. The government has already committed to participating in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, a move seen as a potential catalyst for achieving a broader agreement.

Wadephul expressed a cautious optimism regarding the possibility of a ceasefire emerging. He stated that the US plan for Gaza represents a beacon of hope for an end to hostilities, alleviating suffering and securing the release of hostages and urged Hamas to embrace this opportunity.

The German government has reportedly been closely monitoring the negotiations through extensive consultations. Wadephul cautioned, however, that the proposed solution will not be implemented immediately, highlighting the significant practical challenges that remain. Critical questions surrounding the future governance of the Gaza Strip, ensuring security, restoring humanitarian aid and coordinating reconstruction efforts, require careful consideration and will contribute to what he described as a laborious process.
