Tragedy struck on Monday morning as a serious traffic collision on Federal Highway 156 between Weißwasser and Boxberg resulted in three fatalities. Police Directorate Görlitz confirmed the incident.
The accident occurred around 11:10 AM, when a Nissan and a Suzuki collided head-on for reasons currently under investigation. The 66-year-old female driver of the Nissan succumbed to her severe injuries in hospital. The occupants of the Suzuki, an 87-year-old driver and his 86-year-old passenger, tragically died at the scene.
Two rescue helicopters were deployed to transport the 13 and seven-year-old female passengers of the Nissan to hospitals, where they are being treated for serious injuries. Both vehicles were declared a total loss, resulting in property damage estimated at approximately €35,000. Federal Highway 156 was fully closed until 4:15 PM, causing significant disruption.
