Germany Urges Speedy Digital Funding for Schools

The German government has been urged to swiftly implement the Digital Pact 2.0, a program designed to enhance digital infrastructure and resources in schools. Cem Özdemir, a leading figure within the Green Party and currently holding the portfolios of both Agriculture and Education, expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the program’s rollout.

Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, Özdemir highlighted that nearly ten months have passed since a political consensus was reached on the Digital Pact 2.0, yet a clear timeline and mechanism for disbursing funds to schools remains unclear. He stated that all necessary contracts are essentially ready for signature.

Özdemir emphasized the importance of adhering to previously agreed terms, specifically noting the commitment to initiate the Digital Pact 2.0 no later than January 2026. This timeline includes provisions for retroactive accounting for the year 2025, to avoid a gap in funding. He underscored that timely implementation is crucial for local authorities to ensure continuity and enable effective planning for future investments.
