According to a spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Finance, only about 20 percent of the total funds in the €30 billion special fund, “Aufbauhilfe 2021” (Reconstruction Aid 2021), have been drawn down as of June 30, 2026. Specifically, €6.2 billion has been utilized out of the overall sum.
Of this, €5.2 billion has been allocated to the affected federal states: North Rhine-Westphalia received €2.6 billion, Rhineland-Palatinate received €2.5 billion, Saxony received €65 million, and Bavaria received €50 million. Approximately €1 billion has been invested in rebuilding federal infrastructure.
Previously, states had reported that they had already applied for a total of €10 billion by June 30, 2025; however, the ministry spokeswoman noted that current figures available at this moment are not yet released.
Although the deadline for applying for the aid was June 30, 2026, the approval period does not conclude until December 31, 2030. The funds will only be paid out after approval, and potentially only after the end of the approval period. Therefore, the final amount that will be drawn from the Aufbauhilfe 2021 special fund remains uncertain, according to the ministry spokeswoman.
