Following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, German anti‑Semitism spokesman Felix Klein warned of potential terror in the country. He said that Iran could use its networks in Germany to carry out attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions, citing the repeated link between rising tensions in the Middle East and increased violence against Jewish life in Europe. Klein welcomed the steps taken by German security authorities to strengthen protection for Jewish and Israeli facilities.
Meanwhile, CDU parliamentarian and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Christoph de Vries, praised Israel’s and the United States’ role in Khamenei’s death. “The terrorist, mass murderer and oppressor of the Iranian people, Ali Khamenei, is dead. That’s for the best” de Vries told the Funke media group. He added that the collapse of the brutal Mullah regime would present a historic chance for a free, democratic Iran and for stability and peace in the Middle East. De Vries argued that if the regime fell, it would also significantly weaken the Shiite‑Islamist structures in Germany, whose main supporters are based in Tehran. Until then, he insisted, Germany must remain highly vigilant to safeguard Jewish, Israeli and American institutions within its borders.
The United States and Israel launched a massive wave of air strikes against Iran on Saturday morning, killing Khamenei in an attack over Tehran. In retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli sites and U.S. military facilities in Gulf states.
