Germany’s CDU Calls for More Weapons for Ukraine Amid Russian Attacks

Following what Ukrainian officials are describing as the most intense Russian aerial assault to date, Roderich Kiesewetter, a prominent foreign policy representative from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has called on the German government to take decisive action.

Speaking to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Kiesewetter asserted that Russia’s actions demonstrate a persistent intent of destruction rather than a genuine pursuit of a peace agreement. He cautioned against pursuing negotiations he characterized as unrealistic and counterproductive, suggesting Germany should instead mirror the policies of Nordic and Baltic nations.

Kiesewetter’s recommendations include substantially increasing both military and financial aid to Ukraine, providing advanced weaponry such as Taurus missiles and making frozen Russian assets available to support the nation’s defense and recovery efforts.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a large-scale attack overnight, deploying 810 Shahed-Kamikaze drones, nine Iskander-K missiles and four ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M or KN-23 types. Notably, for the first time, a government building in the capital city of Kyiv was directly impacted by the attack.
