Germany’s Greens Criticize Gaza Response

The German Green Party has voiced concerns regarding the federal government’s approach to the ongoing situation involving Israel, citing what they perceive as undue hesitation. Luise Amtsberg, the Green Party’s representative for foreign policy, expressed these reservations in comments to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

Amtsberg stated that further consultations with the Chancellery are unwarranted, arguing that the people of Gaza do not have the time for such delays. She proposed immediate action, including a cessation of weapon deliveries potentially used in Gaza and increased sanctions targeting settlers and government officials supporting settlement construction, as measures to substantially increase pressure.

The Green Party representative strongly criticized the government’s assessment of modest progress in humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, deeming it “cynical”. She emphasized that hundreds of thousands of individuals remain inaccessible due to the ongoing blockade of aid by the Israeli government and continuing combat operations.

Amtsberg underscored that the federal government should not be satisfied with limited aerial aid drops. Instead, she advocates for a commitment to the full opening of humanitarian access routes, a transition to United Nations-led aid distribution and the direct linkage of these demands to concrete actions.
