Germany’s Greens Push for New Russia Sanctions After Drone Incident

Following a recent drone incident in Poland, German Green Party leader Felix Banaszak has called for a new sanctions package targeting Russia. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Friday, Banaszak emphasized the need for action beyond rhetorical statements, advocating for stricter sanctions.

He highlighted Germany’s continued import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and uranium within the European Union, suggesting potential areas for further restrictions. Banaszak stressed the importance of increased and consistent support for Ukraine, arguing that resolve, clarity, firmness and robustness are necessary to influence Russia’s actions.

He underscored the significance of a coordinated response from the European Union and NATO member states, expressing concern over what he described as cautious wording emanating from the United States. The Green Party leader emphasized the need for unified action in addressing the situation.
