Bundesgesundheitsministerin Nina Warken of the CDU called on the coalition partners to show willingness to compromise on the health insurers’ savings plans. Speaking to RTL and ntv she noted that the SPD may not agree with certain aspects and the Union faction may have its own objections, but everyone must be willing to move a bit. “We have agreed not to rule out individual measures outright” she said. “What we need now is a coherent package that is internally consistent and free of cherry‑picking or favoring one side’s proposals over the other”. She added that she will submit a balanced proposal that has been coordinated within the government, and that this will give confidence that the coalition factions can be brought on board with a plan acceptable to both sides.
Warken warned that there will certainly be debates over specific points, but that there are no wish lists at the moment. “What matters is a cohesive package” she said. To reach that outcome, each side must rethink its issues and enter into compromise”.
