Germany’s Late Surge Secures 2-1 Win Over Ghana, Undav Strikes Decisively

Germany began their home campaign in the World Cup year with a 2-1 victory over Ghana in Stuttgart. The match opened with a dominating phase from the Germans, yet the initial advantage did not translate into an early goal against the initially overwhelmed Ghanaians. It was only with a penalty by Kai Havertz at the end of the first half that the DFB team took the lead. Havertz calmly converted the spot‑kick to put Germany ahead 1-0.

After the break, the German side lost its rhythm. Ghana, now in control, capitalised in the 70th minute when Abdul Fatawu seized a counter‑attack down the left side and, building on a pass from Köhn, equalised to make it 1-1.

In the 88th minute the substitute for Stuttgart, Deniz Undav, scored the decisive goal. Following a chip by Goretzka, Sané delivered a pass to the waiting Undav, who, under pressure, finished with his right‑foot tip over the crossbar. The Ghanese goalkeeper Asare had no chance to stop the ball.
