According to Dorothee Bär, the Federal Minister for Research and Technology from the CSU, Germany’s security is now defended in space as well as on Earth. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday, Bär asserted that the future security of the country is intrinsically linked to space travel.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Govsatcom Hub in Cologne on Tuesday, she emphasized that this facility will be a critical component of the European security architecture. The hub aims to ensure that Germany and Europe remain capable of taking action even during crises and exceptional situations. Bär added that this ceremony “sends a strong signal for secure and sovereign European satellite communication,” proclaiming, “It is evident here: Germany is a space nation.”
The Govsatcom Hub is intended to serve as a central European node for encrypted satellite communication, ensuring that European authorities maintain connectivity even during emergencies.
