The US stock markets showed mixed results on Wednesday. By the close in New York, the Dow Jones registered 54,349 points, marking a positive gain of 0.5% compared to the previous trading day. However, the broader S&P 500 was down 0.2% at roughly 7,724 points, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 calculated around 29,488 points, showing a decline of 0.8%.
Market movements were influenced by Donald Trump’s renewed promise of an imminent opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a pledge that was optimistically received by parts of the markets. Conversely, weaker-than-expected job market data from the ADP service provider contributed to market uncertainty.
In other economic sectors, the Euro strengthened slightly by Wednesday evening, trading at $1.1551 per Euro, meaning the dollar was valued at 0.8657 Euros. Gold prices experienced strong increases, with fine ounces reaching $4,246 in the evening, a jump of 4.1%, corresponding to 118.19 Euros per gram. Meanwhile, the oil price dipped slightly; a barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea cost $79.24 around 10 PM German time, which was 12 cents or 0.2% less than at the end of the previous trading day.
