Greens leader Felix Banaszak supports the attempt to establish a coalition in Berlin with the Linke party, which plans initiatives such as socializing tens of thousands of existing housing units. Banaszak told the FAZ that the Berlin Linke deserved a chance as a winning party to demonstrate its capacity to form a government. Furthermore, he defended the party against attacks he deemed “disproportionate,” particularly those related to antisemitism allegations. He praised the Linke for successfully giving a voice and hope to individuals who recently felt unheard by politics amidst their daily worries, specifically mentioning Muslims and Palestinians.
Regarding the political landscape, Banaszak described the Greens’ election campaign as “too pale” and insufficiently noticeable. Conversely, when discussing the option of a Senate formation involving the CDU and SPD, he argued that the general alienation of city society from the current Senate was widespread, noting that the Senate under CDU leadership was significantly voted out.
However, he stated that the Greens have specific requirements for a coalition with the Berlin Linke. These requirements involve handling instances where certain deputies are accused of having proximity to the Remmo clan. Banaszak demanded that the Linke credibly demonstrate that robust mechanisms are in place so that such allegations are not simply glossed over or minimized.
