Franziska Brantner, chair of the German Greens, has accused the blue‑red coalition of deepening Germany’s dependence on U.S. President Donald Trump by reforming the heating law. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” in its Saturday edition, she warned that Trump “might decide tomorrow to stop supplying us with LNG gas”. Brantner said moving toward a new “heating hammer” strategy would be “crazy” because it would create a fresh reliance on the United States.
She argued that Germany can meet its energy needs with a greater mix of wind, solar, battery storage and smarter grids. “What the coalition is doing is driving up heating costs for citizens with its gas fetish” she said. “Biogas is already more expensive because it is scarcely available, and it won’t get cheaper”.
Brantner took a broader shot at the government’s economic policy. “It surprises me daily that the administration, supposedly led by an ostensibly business‑friendly chancellor, acts in a business‑hostile manner” she observed. “This government has endless funds, spends a large portion on non‑investment items, and refuses to implement reforms. That is irresponsible and poison for our economy”.
