Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Minister, Winfried Hermann of the Green Party, is set to appear as one of the few high-profile politicians at an Easter march organized by the peace movement. Hermann stated to the Funke media group’s Sunday editions that he will speak on Easter Saturday at the non-partisan “Peace Alliance Freudenstadt” in Alpirsbach.
Expressing concern, Hermann noted, “Like many people, I am worried about the militarisaton of international politics, especially concerning illegal wars of aggression by Russia, Israel, and the USA”. While the co-leader of the Green Party, Franziska Brantner, had previously criticized the Easter marches in 2025, suggesting solidarity should be shown to the victims rather than supporting the aggressors, Hermann did not dispute this. However, he clarified their stance, saying, “Pacifists have long been a minority within the Green Party. Of course, we stand with the victims. But that is not enough. We need greater efforts towards peace and more diplomacy”. He emphasized that if one desires peace, one must prepare for peace, not war, adding, “By the way, the Basic Law contains a clear mandate for peace for both the government and the people”.
Regarding the conflict involving the U.S. and Israel against Iran, as well as Israeli assaults in Lebanon, Hermann labeled these actions as “illegal and brutal under international law” paying no regard for the civilian population. He concluded by stating that the peace movement sends a clear signal to halt military interventions based on questionable justifications and to oppose autocratic regimes.
