Green Youth Puts Six Demands on Baden‑Württemberg Premier Cem Özdemir, From Excluding Boris Palmer to Housing Protections and an AfD Ban Process.

After Cem Özdemir’s electoral victory in Baden-Württemberg, the Green Youth has called on the newly appointed premier to clarify his policy positions. In a demand paper reported by the “Handelsblatt”‘s Tuesday issue, the youth wing outlines six conditions for Özdemir. It begins by noting that he entered office with the promise of making politics accessible to the wider population, but warns that a victory is meaningless unless it delivers a government that delivers clear social policies.

One key demand is that Boris Palmer must be excluded from any role in the new state cabinet. Although Palmer left the Greens in 2023 over a dispute, he remains an ally of Özdemir. The youth document argues that Palmer’s repeated racist remarks are incompatible with the party’s core values.

The Green youth also urges Özdemir to include in the coalition agreement an investigation into banning the AfD. They require that his future government refrain from tightening asylum and migration policies in the Bundesrat. Additionally, the young politicians call for measures to curb wealth inequality and for a nationwide rent cap.
