Green Youth Urges Participation in Baden-Württemberg Government Talks, Seeks to Oust Boris Palmer

The Green Youth is demanding to be involved in the upcoming government formation in Baden‑Württemberg.
Speaking to the magazine Stern, Green Youth chair Luis Bobga said that it has been good practice to focus everything on Cem Özdemir during the campaign, but now it must be ensured that the Green Youth is included in the negotiations. He added that the government should be a green one, not one that serves only Cem Özdemir.

Bobga cited the role of the youth wing in the campaign to explain the strong election result: “The result was also thanks to the Green Youth on the ground day and night”. He made this remark as a 23‑year‑old.

Regarding Tübingen mayor Boris Palmer, Bobga expressed the expectation that the mayor will play no role in the future state government. Palmer is no longer a party member for good reasons, and it is clear that he will not receive a ministerial post or a consultancy position in Cem Özdemir’s state government.

On reports that Palmer was pressured by Green Youth members on Sunday evening to leave the Green Party’s campaign event in Stuttgart, Bobga said he was unaware of the incident. He also conveyed his understanding that Palmer is not welcome at green campaign events, noting that in recent years Palmer has repeatedly tried to portray himself as part of the Green family. For that reason, he should not be expected to attend such evenings.
