Greens Keep Lawsuit Open Against Federal Budget, Citing Constitutional Violations

Green faction leader Katharina Dröge has kept the possibility open of filing a lawsuit against the federal budget at the Federal Constitutional Court. “The federal government is not adhering to what is enshrined in the constitution” she told the newspapers of the Mediengruppe Bayern. “We negotiated hard to ensure that money from the special fund could only be used in addition. The government, however, is not following that”.

Because of this, the Greens are considering a legal challenge in Karlsruhe, though the process is legally complex. Dröge explained that they do not want to make politics through lawsuits but through the exchange of arguments. “Examining a lawsuit, however, is a necessary pressure tool against the CDU/CSU and SPD”.

The Greens’ stance has reportedly received broad approval, even from conservative entrepreneurs who feel the Union’s fiscal policy is increasingly incomprehensible.
