Following a special session of the Interior Committee concerning the attack on the Berlin CSD, the Green Party has demanded greater transparency. Konstantin von Notz, a deputy faction leader for the Greens and vice chairman of the Parliamentary Control Body, stated to the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition) that numerous key facts of the incident remain unresolved. These unresolved points include the alleged weapon, a machete, which has yet to be recovered. Furthermore, the perpetrator’s main mobile phone is still missing, according to Notz. He noted that the initial findings from the evaluation of the “new” phone found in the vehicle have not been communicated. It also remains unclear whether the attacker acted alone or if they received assistance, potentially originating from abroad.
Von Notz criticized the fact that a chronological account of the authorities’ actions has not yet been presented. While the Greens welcomed the assurance from Minister Dobrindt that such a comprehensive timeline detailing all relevant activities of the various agencies would be provided to the parliament, Notz demanded that this be delivered as quickly as possible.
In addition, it is still unknown what knowledge, if any, the security authorities communicated to the courts and the public prosecutor regarding the future danger posed by the perpetrator. The Interior Minister has thus far been unable to provide this information after multiple direct inquiries.
The Green politician concluded, “After today’s session, it is completely clear that the investigation into the detailed background of the incident and the actions of the authorities must continue.” He stressed that this effort is not aimed at assigning blame but rather at finally addressing long-standing security deficits and improving future prevention of such acts.
