A police officer from the GSG9 special unit was killed on Monday at the Bundeswehr military training ground in Putlos, near Oldenburg in Holstein. Police and the public prosecutor’s office reported on Tuesday that the incident occurred during a live-fire shooting drill. The Lübeck Criminal Police Station and the Lübeck Public Prosecution Office launched investigations into the event on Monday evening, commencing the securing and evaluation of evidence and clues. Initial findings suggest to the authorities that the death was an accident. Alexander Dobrindt, the Federal Interior Minister (CSU), reacted to the incident, stating he was “deeply shaken”. The minister added, “My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased police officer”.
