Hamas Reportedly Approves New Gaza Ceasefire Proposal

Hamas representatives are reportedly indicating willingness to accept the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by Egyptian and Qatari mediators, according to reports emerging from Arab media outlets Monday.

The proposed agreement, as detailed in these reports, envisions a phased release of remaining hostages held in Gaza, coupled with a complete Israeli withdrawal from the territory.

A recent meeting involving Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, representatives from Palestinian factions, the Egyptian intelligence chief and Hamas officials has been described as constructive. “Al-Araby TV”, a Qatar-based news channel, reports that participants demonstrated an increased sense of responsibility and determination to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

However, Israeli officials have previously stated that acceptance of any agreement is contingent upon a comprehensive deal guaranteeing the immediate and simultaneous release of all hostages. In addition, Israel has outlined further conditions including the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, Israeli control over the territory and the establishment of a governing body not affiliated with either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
