A 65-year-old man experiencing homelessness has died in Hamburg-Altona-Nord, police announced on Thursday. The man succumbed to his injuries following an assault that occurred in June within the Altona-Altstadt district.
Initial reports indicate that the man was attacked by what is believed to be three men and one woman. Following the assault, he fell into a coma.
A subsequent autopsy conducted by forensic pathologists confirmed that the man’s death was a direct result of external trauma. At the time of the incident, the man was pulling a handcart and was not wearing a jacket.
The homicide squad of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA 41) is now investigating the case, initially focusing on charges of grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
Police are renewing their appeal for witness information. Individuals who may have observed suspicious activity between 6:00 PM on June 21st and 10:20 PM on June 22nd in the vicinity of Museumstraße or Platz der Republik are urged to contact authorities. The incident took place near the Stuhlmannbrunnen fountain.
