Hardt Calls for US Air Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Sites to Halt Program Progress

The union faction’s foreign‑policy spokesperson, Jürgen Hardt (CDU), says a new U.S. air strike against Iranian nuclear facilities is warranted. He told RTL and ntv that the attacks in summer 2025 were justified because Iran was crossing every threshold on the way to possessing a bomb. According to Hardt, a similar approach now seems even more likely. He added that limited strikes on the nuclear programme might be a path the United States could support.

Hardt cautions, however, that for the U.S. such an attack carries great risk. Many U.S. bases in the Middle East could become targets of Iranian retaliation. He also doubts whether air strikes alone would topple the Iranian regime. “Until recently, Trump talked about regime change; now he seems focused chiefly on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon” he said. “That aligns with our shared goal, though it falls far short of what he promised the Iranian people”.
