Healthcare Crisis Looms Cuts Threaten Millions

The head of the AOK Federal Association, Carola Reimann, has voiced strong opposition to potential cuts in care insurance benefits, advocating instead for increased federal government subsidies.

Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Reimann emphasized the urgent need for the federal government to reimburse care insurance funds for over five billion euros in expenses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. She stated this reimbursement would provide the care insurance system with a critical “breathing space”. Reimann criticized the current federal budget, describing its planned support as “significantly inadequate.

Looking towards long-term financial stability, Reimann proposed several measures for federal funding. These include the taxation of pension insurance contributions for caregivers and the funding of care insurance contributions for training costs through federal revenue. Additionally, she suggested adjusting contribution allowances for recipients of citizen’s income and securing the care provision fund with a federal subsidy.

Reimann asserted that these measures alone have the potential to restore financial stability to the care insurance funds, ultimately allowing them to maintain current benefit levels for those requiring care without resorting to service reductions.
