Following the election results of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hessian Minister-President Boris Rhein (CDU) believes it is essential to continue the discussion initiated by federal chairman Friedrich Merz (CDU) regarding changes in the urban landscape and to formulate solutions. Speaking to “Bild am Sonntag”, Rhein praised Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, stating that he was handling the situation well.
He acknowledged that the migration crisis is “naturally not solved.” Rhein noted that the focus has once again turned to the city scape. While he deemed the debate started by Merz to be “correct,” he found that the reaction to it-that such topics “should not be discussed”-was “premature.” Rhein emphasized that discussion is necessary, adding, “Yes, we must discuss it, and we must then learn lessons from it.”
The Hessian Minister-President also pointed to unresolved issues, citing “immigration into social systems” and the “crime committed by immigrants.” According to the CDU politician, it is futile to “hide these topics behind a firewall,” as they will not disappear by doing so. These questions must be addressed and solved, but without adopting the “terrible repatriation fantasies” seen among the AfD. Rhein concluded by maintaining that only Christian democracy in Germany can provide answers to these major issues.
