Florian Hager has been confirmed as the Intendant (Director-General) of the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation (Hessischer Rundfunk). The Broadcasting Council elected Hager last Friday with 29 votes in favor, one against, and zero abstentions; there were no other candidates for the position. His new term of office will commence on March 1, 2027, and will last five years, following the decision of the council.
Miriam Dangel, head of the Broadcasting Council, stated that they view Hager’s re-election as a reinforcement of the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation’s relevance as an indispensable public broadcaster in the state of Hesse. She explained that the Council anticipates this tenure will strengthen the institution by driving necessary reform processes and structural changes towards creating a modern media house.
Given the current economic, journalistic, social, and media policy challenges-along with future issues concerning digitalization and artificial intelligence-the Council believes that “continuity and clear, thoughtful leadership” are essential.
