Klaus Holetschek, the CSU group leader in the Bavarian State Parliament, expressed serious concern about the complete expiry of the fuel subsidy. He warned that action must be taken before fuel prices jump again starting July 1st.
Speaking to the TV channel “Welt” on Thursday, Holetschek commented that gas pumps have become a kind of symbol representing the state’s lack of capacity to act, especially during the Easter period. He stressed that proactive steps must be taken now rather than merely waiting and observing. Furthermore, he insisted that officials must be ready to intervene if the situation deteriorates.
Holetschek suggested that the government should consider providing targeted subsidies specifically for those who are less financially well-off. He concluded that there should be no firm limit or “red line” regarding this matter; instead, the authorities must observe the situation carefully and take action, given how important the issue is.
