Red Bull Racing has announced the departure of Team Principal Christian Horner, effective immediately. The decision, communicated in a statement released on Wednesday, marks the end of a two-decade tenure for Horner, a pivotal figure in the team’s history.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the past 20 years” the statement read. “His unwavering commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking have significantly contributed to establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and appealing teams in Formula 1.
The role of Team Principal will now be filled by Laurent Mekies, formerly the head of the sister team, Racing Bulls. This transition occurs following a period where Red Bull Racing, despite the continued competitive performance of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, has faced challenges with consistency in the performance of the second driver and the car’s overall suitability for a wider range of racing conditions.
