Should the AfD attain governmental control in Sachsen-Anhalt, parts of the state administration’s civil service workforce would face potential job uncertainty, according to the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”. The party reportedly already has plans to significantly reorganize the state by filling an estimated three-digit number of positions if they win the state election in September.
According to AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund, he estimates that the realistic number of new roles created would fall between 150 and 200 positions. These planned changes are not limited to high-level staff for potential ministers or state secretaries; they extend down to mid-level management roles, including departmental leadership within ministries or head positions in various state agencies.
The underlying goal is clear: the AfD aims to ensure that its policy agenda cannot be stalled or obstructed by the existing civil service structure. Siegmund stated that, in his experience, they could hire many departmental and office leaders within the ministries. However, he added a caveat, warning that if attempts were made to actively block their work, they would necessarily take measures of their own. He also emphasized that large segments of the middle management layer are not politically determined, claiming that they would generally cooperate with anyone, regardless of their political background.
The AfD’s plans extend beyond ministerial offices. Siegmund confirmed that their focus is not solely on the state administration but also includes state-owned companies, citing plans to abolish entities such as the state energy agency.
