The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) criticized Lufthansa for terminating its exemption agreement with the Cockpit Association. IFALPA president Ron Hay wrote a letter to Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, as reported by the association. Hay warned that the decision could undermine the safety‑related work that pilots perform. Cockpit Association president Andreas Pinheiro said the pilots’ engagement in Lufthansa’s flight‑safety activities had been ended unilaterally. “By terminating the agreement, Lufthansa knowingly accepts that flight‑safety work will be adversely affected” Pinheiro stated. The Cockpit Association functions both as a trade union and a professional body. Founded in 1948, IFALPA claims to represent more than 160,000 pilots worldwide and works to promote global aviation‑safety standards.
