Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles at German Base in Jordan’s Al‑Azraq – No Casualties, Investigation Underway

The German contingent stationed at the al‑Azraq field camp in Jordan is believed to have been hit by ballistic rockets fired from Iran during the night of Monday. Reports from “Der Spiegel” also indicate that the German section of the Jordanian air force base-where the U.S. Air Force is also based-was struck.

At the time of the attack the German troops were in protective shelters, which prevented any casualties. It is still unclear whether the rockets penetrated the base itself or if debris from previously intercepted projectiles landed on the military area.

The Bundeswehr has had a continuous presence in al‑Azraq for years, using the location to support an international anti‑terror coalition with tanker aircraft. In response to the escalating situation in the Middle East, the German armed forces had already reduced its personnel there, leaving only a low triple‑digit number of soldiers deployed.

Two A400M transport aircraft from the Luftwaffe are kept on standby at the site to enable a rapid evacuation if required.

The extent of the damage remains uncertain. A spokesperson for the relevant operational command confirmed that an attack had occurred and that the incident is currently under internal investigation.
