Iran War Pushes German Fuel Prices Past 2 Euro Milestone

Fuel prices at petrol stations across Germany have surged dramatically following the outbreak of war in Iran.

On Tuesday, the average price for a liter of Super E10 climbed to €1.897, a rise of 12.1 cents compared to the previous week, according to a spokesperson for the ADAC who spoke to the dts news agency on Wednesday. Diesel prices averaged €1.917, up by 17.7 cents over the same period.

Even before the war began, prices had already reached a new high for 2024 during the preceding week. The escalation of hostilities-and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil trade-has further pressured energy costs. A reversal of the price increase appears unlikely at present, as many service stations crossed the €2 threshold for both Diesel and E10 early on Wednesday morning.
