Ahead of the election for the Berlin House of Representatives, the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, has called for the establishment of a “firewall” against antisemitism. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, Prosor leveled serious accusations of antisemitism against Die Linke, calling them the likely winner in Berlin. He asserted that this form of hatred is deeply entrenched within the party, stating that “last year, it was no longer ignorable.”
Prosor based his critique on several issues, including incidents within the party’s youth wing, calls for demonstrations hostile to Israel, and the attendance of a PFLP activist at a campaign event. He emphasized that these instances were not isolated mistakes, but rather a consistent pattern.
He further argued that the party cannot credibly claim to protect Jewish spaces while simultaneously seeking to restrict police powers and rejecting the definition of antisemitism used by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA)-a standard tool for identifying and combating hatred against Jews.
The diplomat urged all political parties to build this necessary firewall against antisemitism until genuine action follows words. “One cannot fight hatred while giving it a platform,” he demanded.
